I have been working on some colouring pages for the Heathen holidays Sigrblót, Midsummer, Winter Nights, and Jól. Just in time for Sigrblót! Please use them for your families or gatherings. All are free to use and share them for non-commercial purposes!

My kindred in the last 2 years has been making an extra effort to promote inclusive heathenry in our province, the reason being was that I noted that it was easier to find Folkish groups than anything else when you Googled our province and the word “heathenry.” As such we did note that the Wikipedia page for Heathenry in Canada appeared high in the search results and we were sure to link ourselves and other inclusive heathen groups locally onto that page. (As plenty of other kindreds and groups had already done.) Unfortunately, due to the nature of it being a small, decentralized religion most groups organize using Facebook, and Wikipedia is starting to take a hard line of Facebook page links as being uncredible. Language Trees: The Importance of Mother

       I recently saw this image appear in my feed on Facebook, and although I think it is better than a lot of illustrations of language trees that I have seen, it makes no sense that a primarily English illustration of a language tree fails to include Old English. For those of you wondering, the OE word for mother is “modor.” As such, on this diagram it should be the branch off of Proto-Germanic which is not the branch labeled Old Norse. (I will relabel the diagram below so you can see what I mean.)       There are a lot of perfectly terrible language trees out there, so by comparison this one is fairly good. The actual form of a tree really lends itself to illustrating the evolution of language as it splits into branches of varying lengths. I spend a lot of time looking at different languages for fun in my spare time. Grieving as a Heathen in a Non-Heathen World

I have not forgotten about this blog. I want to write in it frequently, but I am currently upgrading for work and don’t have much free time. That said, I want to talk about this because it is relevant in my life this past year and has been resurfacing again in the past month.  How do we grieve as Heathens, and how does that differ from the over-culture? Do our beliefs alienate us from the community at large, or actually help in the grieving process? Let’s start with the basics though. What do Heathens believe about death, dying, and the afterlife? Wow, so that is a tough one! Heathens often don’t have the same ideas about things, especially something as big as this topic.
